Fisheries and Oceans Canada through The Strategic Partnerships Initiative at ISC has developed the National Indigenous Marine Servicing Initiative (ISMI) which will run from 2018/19 to 2022/23. This initiative aims to fill a gap in programing to assist Indigenous communities to develop an enhancement of their CFE business management skills to include marine serving, building local capacity through training and business management in the marine servicing industry, and having a responsive BDT assist with planning and the execution of training and business plans. IMSI will focus on fostering Indigenous participation in the marine industry supply chain by supporting opportunity ready Indigenous communities and Commercial Fishing Enterprises who want to expand and diversify into Indigenous marine related service industries. ISMI aims to create more opportunity and accompanying benefits in terms of employment, wealth creation and community impact.
